Taiwan’s LED industry has been flourishing, as its LED lighting products are gaining support in the global market. During Jan-Sept, 2016, the production value of Taiwan’s LED industry rose by 15%. This has been possible as many countries have supported the friendly business environment of Taiwan, its Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) stated.

The US has been the largest buyer of Taiwan’s LED lighting products during the first 10-month period, which imported US$172 million worth of LED lighting products, MOEA said. During the 10-month period, Taiwan’s LED lighting exports to the US accounted for 48.1% of its total exports, MOEA said.

During Jan-Sept, 2016, the output of Taiwan’s LED lighting industry had a revenue value of US$238 million(NT$7.6 billion), which was a hike by 14.8% from 2015. Of this, the total production value of Taiwan was 59.6%, according to MOEA statistics. MOEA is hopeful that figures for the whole of 2016 would exceed that of 2015.

This helped the domestic lighting industry to rise by 5.3% year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2016, which accounted to NT$12.7 billion, according to the statistics. During Jan-Sept, 2016, Taiwan produced 26.55 million LED lighting units—an increase of 13.8% from 2015, of which 74.6% were exported, MOEA said.
